Field Hockey Drops Season Finale At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated 5-0 in their season finale, by Harvard University on Wednesday, October 31 in Cambridge, Mass.

Harvard started the scoring with 5:50 remaining in the first half on a goal from Mina Pell, to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break. Harvard continued to attack the Friars, by scoring four-more unanswered goals in the second half to make the final score 5-0.

Jane Park led off the second half at the 33:27 mark on an assist from Jenn Ahn. At 28:29, Harvard took a 3-0 lead on a goal from Philomena Gambale. Gambale was assisted by Kate Gannon. Gannon followed with a goal of her own, with 8:53 remaining in the game to make the score 4-0. Liz Andrews rounded out the attack with the fifth Harvard goal of the game at 3:54 on a penalty corner. Andrews was assisted by Ahn and Katie Turck.

Goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) registered eight saves for Providence. Harvard goalkeeper Katie Zacarian made two saves in goal, before being replaced by Anne Haig in the second half at the 2:32 mark.

Providence wraps up the regular-season schedule with an 11-7 overall record, and will await an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Championship Tournament. Tournament selections will be made on November 5, with competition dates set for November 10-11 at a site to be determined.
