PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College field hockey team defeated New Hampshire, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday, October 14 in Providence, R.I. Providence junior Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.Y.) fired in the game-winning goal just 1:41 into the first overtime period.
After a scoreless first half, PC junior Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game off a penalty corner with 30:40 remaining in regulation. The Wildcats pressured the Friars and scored the tying goal when junior Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.) scored with a low hard shot from 12 feet in front of the net. The game remained tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation.
The Friars came out strong in overtime as Dow scored the winning goal off an assist by senior Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.)
Providence goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made a four saves in the win. New Hampshire goaltender Christine Buckley registered four stops for the Wildcats. Providence outshot New Hampshire, 19-10, and held the advantage on penalty corners, 10-6.
Providence will return to action on Friday, October 19 against Syracuse at PC's Hendricken Field at 3:30 p.m..
