Men's Track Competes At New England Challenge

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's track team competed at the New England Challenge Cup at Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Friday, January 19.
The Friars were led by senior Larry Morrissey of Waterford, Ireland and senior Keith Kelly of Drogheda, Ireland. Morrissey won the mile in a time of 4:12.98 and qualified for the IC4A Championship. Kelly finished first in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:02.79 and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship.
PC junior Hamish Thorpe of Auckland, New Zealand, junior Dermot Galvin of Kilrush, Ireland and sophomore Adam Sutton of Preston, England all finished strong for the Friars. Thorpe placed second in the mile (4:15.76), while Galvin and Sutton finished second and third, respectively, in the 3,000 meters. All three runners qualified for the IC4A Championship.
Junior Paul Reilly of Loughrea, Ireland, senior Kevin Cashman of Westwood, Mass., junior Tim Morris of Walpole, Mass. and sophomore Tim Curran of Northboro, Mass., all helped the Friar distance medley squad earn a first-place finish in a time of 10:20.50..
