PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by the Brown University Bears, 2-0, in ECAC action on Friday, January 12 at Brown's Meehan Auditorium.

With the victory, Brown captured the Mayor's Cup for the third year in a row.

Brown outshot the Friars by an 18-13 margin over the first two periods of the game.

Brown's Kim Insalaco (Rochester, N.Y.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 7:53 of the third period as she put a rebound past Friar freshman netminder Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.).

Providence pulled Quinlan to skate a sixth attacker with 1:06 remaing but Brown added an empty-net goal goal at 19:00 of the third period. Brown's Cara Gardner (Hensall, Ontario) tallied the empty-net goal to give the Bears their eighth victory of the season.

In goal, Brown's Pam Dreyer (Eagle River, Alaska) recorded 24 saves while Quinlan stopped 29 shots for the Friars.

Providence College returns to action on Saturday, January 13 when the Friars travel to Harvard University for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.
