CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard defeated Providence College, 7-4, in women's ECAC hockey action on Saturday, January 13 at Cambridge, Mass. Jennifer Botterill led the Crimson with her second consecutive hat trick.
The Friars got on the scoreboard first when Val Bono's slap shot found the back of the net at 1:34 of the first period. Botterill netted her first goal of the game at 17:24 to force a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes of action.
PC's Kim Mathias scored at 7:59 of the second before Angie Francisco tied the game at 2-2 at 9:19 of the second. PC regained the lead at 11:35 of the second when Darlene Stephenson scored on a two-on-one break in. However, Botterill scored at 17:34 and 19:48 of the second period to give the Crimson their first lead of the game.
Harvard got two goals in third from Kalen Ingram and Francisco scored her second tally of the contest to seal the win for the Crimson. Jackie Tamsin scored the lone goal for the Friars in the third period.
Friar goaltender Crystal Nichols and Amy Quinlan combined to record 35 stops in the loss.
Providence College will return to action on Wednesday, January 17 when the Friars host Dartmouth at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
