PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball team won their third-straight game, defeating Fairfield University, 82-75, on Monday, December 4th at PC's Alumni Hall.

The Friars (4-3 overall) survived a scare from the Stags (5-2), who are favored to win the MAAC and had lost only once all season. Providence led at the half, 33-31, behind junior Chrissy Vozab's (Amenia, N.Y.) eight points.

PC came out strong in the second half, with back-to-back three-pointers from Vozab and freshman Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.). Fairfield led by as many as nine points twice in the second half - once at 48-39 with 14:52 remaining and then again at 56-47 with 10:56 remaining. It was at this point that the Friars began to make their run.

A fast-break layup by senior Jen Gombotz (Southington, Conn.) gave Providence the lead at 61-60 with 6:48 remaining. PC increased their lead to nine points at 82-73 with 0:13 remaining when the Friars hit three-of-four free throws after a Fairfield foul and a technical foul was called on the Stags' coach.

Providence senior Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) led the Friars with a team-high 21 points. She shot nine-of-16 from the floor and had career-high five assists to go along with four rebounds in 23 minutes. Freshman Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y.), who earlier in the day was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the season time in three weeks, recorded her third double-double in seven games, as she scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Wilcox also added three assists, a blocked shot and a steal in 32 minutes.

Vozab scored 14 with three assists and Gombotz rounded out the Friars who scored in double figures with 13 points. She added seven rebounds and five assists.

Fairfield was led by senior Gail Strumpf who scored 22 points. Strumpf also reached the 1,500 career points milestone in the second half.

The Friars return to action on Thursday, December 7th, when they open the BIG EAST Conference season when they host Seton Hall University. Tip off is at 7:00 p.m. from PC's Alumni Hall.
