NEW HAVEN, CONN. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team defeated the Yale University Bulldogs, 2-0, in ECAC action on Sunday, December 10 at Yale's Ingalls Rink. Freshman forward Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba) notched what proved to be the game-winning goal on a pass from senior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.).
The Friars got on the scoreboard first when Stephenson beat Yale freshman netminder Nicolette Frank (Burlington, Ontario) at 17:29 of the second period.
PC freshman forward Gayle Shalloo (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added an insurance goal on a power-play for the Friars at 16:04 of the third period. Shalloo was assisted by sophomore forward Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) and freshman defenseman Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa).
Providence freshman goaltender Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) tallied 17 saves as she posted her third shutout of the season.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, January 7 when they play Wisconsin in the first game of the Lake Placid Tournament at Lake Placid, N.Y. at 4:00 p.m.
