Womwn's Basketball Defeated By Pacific, 78-76, In Overtime

SAN JOSE, Calif. ?V The Providence College women?? basketball team was defeated by the University of the Pacific on Friday evening, 78-76 in overtime, at Bellarmine Prep School in San Jose, Calif.
The Friars (1-2 overall) were led by senior Jen Gombotz (Southington, Conn.) who scored a game- and season high 24 points in the loss, including a game-tying baseline jumper with one second remaining in regulation which sent to overtime.
Providence trailed, 32-28, at the half, after shooting 11-for-28 in the first 20 minutes (39%) while the Tigers shot 41% (12-for-29). The Friars shot 43% (12-for-28) in the second half while limiting Pacific to just 28% shooting (nine-for-32).
Gombotz hit seven-of-10 shots from the floor in 32 minutes before fouling out in the overtime period. She hit 10-of-13 shots from the free throw line, including eight-of-eight in the second half. Senior Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) scored a season-high 18 points in 29 minutes off the bench. She hit five-of-11 shots from the floor and grabbed 11 rebounds and added three rebounds and three blocked shots, playing in front of her family and friends for the first time since high school.
Freshman Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y.) addd nine points and 10 rebounds in the defeat.
Pacific was led by Millie Kimpton, who scored 21 points in 43 minutes.
Providence College returns to action Saturday, November 25th when they face Santa Clara University at Bellarmine Prep.
