KINGSTON, R.I. ... The Providence College women's basketball team defeated the University of Rhode Island, 87-65, in Keaney Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 29th.

The Friars (2-3 overall) were led by freshman center Jenese Wilcox (Port Chester, N.Y.), who scored a career-high 21 points on eight-of-eight shooting from the floor and five-of-six shooting from the foul line. She also added two assists, a blocked shot and a steal in 24 minutes.

Wilcox paced a Providence team which shot 33-for-54 overall from the floor for a season-best 0.611 shooting percentage.

Freshman point guard Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.) came off the bench to score a career-best 12 points in 22 minutes while adding three assists and a rebound. Senior Mokina Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) rounded out the Providence players who scored in double figures as she scored 11 points, grabbed three rebounds, had an assist, blocked shot and steal.

The Rams (1-3 overall) were led by Yatar Kuyateh who scored a career-best 22 points on seven-of-nine shooting from the floor.

Providence led, 44-26, at the half after shooting 61% in the first 20 minutes. The Friars were outscored, 43-29, in the final 20 minutes, but won by 22 easily.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, December 2nd when they host Siena College. The game is Providence's home opener and tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
