PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated Niagara University, 3-1, in women's ECAC ice hockey action on Saturday, November 18 at Providence, R.I. Senior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) notched two goals and one assist to lead the Friars to the victory.
Providence got on the scoreboard first when Tabb went end-to-end on a pass from senior defenseman Holley Tyng (East Orleans, Mass.) to give the Friars their first tally of the game at 8:52 of the first period.
Tabb added what proved to be the game-winning goal at 14:47 of the second period when she beat Niagara junior goaltender Tania Pinelli (Hamilton, Ontario) on a power-play attempt.
Niagara cut the Friar lead to 2-1 when junior forward Stephanie Romain (Aylmer, Quebec) scored a power-play goal following a shot by freshman defenseman Dawn Maccauley (Winnipeg, Manitoba) at 11:58 of the third period.
Providence junior forward Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added an empty-net goal at 19:54 for the Friars as they earned the 3-1 decision.
In goal, freshman Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) recorded a career-high 40 saves to backstop the Friars to their fifth victory of the season.
Providence College will return to action on Sunday, November 19 when it faces Niagara University at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
