Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior forward Jen Gombotz scored 12 points and pulled down a career high 16 rebounds to lead five Friars in double figures as Providence College came-from-behind in the second half to defeat the Syracuse Orangewomen, 76-65, at Manley Field House on Tuesday night.

The win gives PC four in a row and six of their last seven as the Friars go to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play. Syracuse falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Gombotz picked up her third double-double of the season and was joined in double figures by junior forward Monika Roberts who had 14 points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Steffanie Shoop added a career best 12 points off the bench while guards Meghan Hinds and Chrissy Vozab each had 11 points in the win.

Forward Beth Record led Syracuse with 18 points and guard Jaime James added 13 for the Orangewomen.

PC fell behind 37-30 in the first half, but battled back in the second taking advantage of a 22-4 run early in the second half to take the lead.

Shoop's basket at the 13:49 mark of the second half tied the game at 49-49 and she added a free throw on PC's next possession to give the Friars the lead for keeps at 50-49.

The Friars would build the lead to as many as 13 points and held off Syracuse for their second BIG EAST win of the year.

Providence shot .364 (24-66) in the game and made 23-of-28 free throws to Syracuse's 7-for-13 night for the margin of victory.

The Friars last won four in a row at the end of the 1995-96 season and are three games over .500 for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, January 8th when the Friars travel to Villanova to face the Wildcats in a 2:00 p.m. game.
