WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Freshman Tim Lyles scored six points of his 12 points in overtime to lead West Virginia past Providence 70-60 Sunday for its fifth-straight victory.

Jason D'Alesio and Marcus Goree each had five points in overtime as the Mountaineers (12-6, 4-3 Big East) handed Providence its sixth consecutive loss. Goree finished with 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

West Virginia scored the first eight points of overtime and Providence (8-11, 1-6) never recovered. D'Alesio, playing in place of Lionel Armstead who had fouled out, hit a 3-pointer and two free throws 16 seconds apart for a 59-54 lead.

Goree followed with a free throw and Lyles' fast-break basket made it 62-54 with 3:09 left.

West Virginia broke a full-court press down the stretch, forcing the Friars to foul. Lyles and Goree each hit four free throws in the final 2:18.

Providence shot 32 percent from the floor and committed 21 turnovers, five in overtime.

The Friars came back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take a 36-35 lead with 11:49 left on a putback by Erron Maxey, who scored all 16 of his points after halftime.

Neither team led by more than four points the rest of the second half.

Providence scored four points in the final 11 seconds to send the game into overtime tied at 54, including a pair of free throws by Maxey with one second left.
