EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Sophomore guard Darius Lane scored a career-high 25 points to lead Seton Hall to an 82-67 victory over Providence on Tuesday night, the Friars' seventh consecutive loss.

Rimas Kaukenas had 19 points and Shaheen Holloway added 15 for the Pirates (14-4, 6-2 Big East), who rebounded from Sunday's loss to No. 6 Connecticut that snapped a three-game winning streak.

The losing streak is the longest for Providence (8-13, 1-7) since the 1984-85 season, the one before Rick Pitino took over as coach of the Friars.

Two free throws by Kaukenas with 5:42 left in the first half gave Seton Hall a 36-17 lead. The Friars then went on a 13-3 run over the next 3:05 to get within 39-30.

Providence coach Tim Welsh, who had already been assessed a technical foul, was given two more and ejected with 2:19 left in the half after center Karim Shabazz was called for his third personal foul. All three technicals were called by official Curtis Shaw.

Kaukenas made four free throws on the technicals and Lane scored on a drive on the ensuing possession and Seton Hall's lead was up to 45-30.

The Pirates led 47-34 at halftime and opened the second half with an 11-5 run to get the lead back to 19. The Pirates' biggest lead was 71-47 on a 3-pointer by Lane - his fourth of the game in five attempts - with 7:03 to play.

Seton Hall shot 53 percent from the field (24-for-45), including 8-for-15 from 3-point range.

Erron Maxey and David Murray each had 17 points for Providence, which completed a three-game, six-day road trip, while Abdul Mills had 13.
