Men's Track Competes At New England Challenge Cup Finals

New England Challenge Cup Finals at BU, Boston, Mass. - Jan. 21, 2000

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's track team scored 37 points and finished fifth of six teams at the New England Challenge Cup Finals at Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Friday, January 21.

The Friars were led by freshman Chris Livesey of Preston, England and senior Keith Kelly of Drogheda, Ireland. Livesey won the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:25.82, which is the fastest time in the East this winter. Kelly finished second in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:18.10. Both runners qualified for the ECAC Championship.

Senior Larry Morrissey of Waterford, Ireland (fourth, 1,000 meters), sophomore Dermot Galvin of Kilrush, Ireland (third, mile) and sophomore Paul Reilly of Loughrea, Ireland (fourth, mile) also all qualified for the ECAC Championship.

PC's 4 x 800 meter relay team earned a first-place finish. The 4 x 800 team of Morrissey, Reilly, Livesey and sophomore Hamish Thorpe (Aukland, New Zealand) won in a time of 7:53.68.

The Friar distance medley squad also ran a strong race. Freshman Adam Sutton (Preston, England), junior Kevin Cashman (Westwood, Mass.), sophomore Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) and junior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland) placed second in a time of 10:10.45 and qualified for the IC4A Championship
