PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars earned their third consecutive victory with a 74-59 win against Princeton University in women's college basketball action on Sunday, January 2 at Providence, R.I.

Senior Zahra Williams (Hyattsville, Md.) posted a strong effort for the Friars, recording a career high 11 points and eight blocked shots. Her eight blocks is a single-game high this season in the BIG EAST.

Led by freshman Dee Cummings (Huntsville, Ala.) and junior Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.), who scored eight points each, the Friars held a 43-26 lead after 20 minutes of action. The Tigers battled the Friars for the first 10 minutes of the game as the two teams were tied at 16 with 9:29 remaining in the half. However, Friar senior Farrah Thomas (Newport, Ark.) hit a three pointer with 8:55 left in the half to put the team ahead 19-16 and PC never trailed again.

Senior Kate Thirolf (Rockville, Md.) and junior Jessica Munson (Norristown, Pa.) each had five points in the first half for the Tigers.

In the second half, Providence continued to build on its lead. PC senior Meghan Hinds (Perrysburg, Ohio) scored five of her 11 points in the final 20 minutes to pace the Friars. She also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to post a double-double. Freshman Allison Cahill (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Rigney (Marlborough, Mass.) each finished with a team high 13 points for Princeton.

With the win, the Friars raised their record to 6-4 overall, while Princeton fell to 2-11.

The Friars will return to BIG EAST action on Tuesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Syracuse.
