Piscataway, N.J. - Junior forward Shannon Nagle scored two goals and teammates Tiphanie Forst, Jenica Bridges and Alyssa Radu notched a goal apiece as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights handed the Providence College Friars a 5-0 loss at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey Friday night.
The loss, the Friars third consecutive shutout loss, drops PC to 0-3-0 on the season while the Scarlet Knights improve to 3-0.
Rutgers jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead on goals by Forst (6:44) and Nagle (19:28). The goals came against PC's Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.) who played the first 23:40 of the game.
Junior Shelagh Slack (S.W. Harbor, Maine) made her first collegiate appearance in goal for PC playing the final 66:20 of the game. She surrendered three second half goals. Ross made two saves in goal while Slack had eight stops.
In the second half, the Scarlet Knights got off 17 shots, scoring three times. Bridges scored at 63:20, Nagle got her second of the game at 69:12 and Radu closed out the scoring at 77:21.
For the game, Rutgers took 22 shots while the Friars had just four. Angel Hadaway made three saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights.
Providence returns to action on Monday, September 13th when the Friars host Sacred Heart in a 3:00 p.m. game at Glay Field.
