Men's Golfers Close Out Fall with Ninth Place Finish

AVENEL, Md. - The Providence College golf team closed out the fall portion of its schedule by finishing ninth among nine teams at the BIG EAST Championships held at the par-71, 6,416-yard TPC Course in Avenel, Maryland.

The Friars shot a 36-hole total of 342-337-679 to finish 65 strokes behind first place finisher, Georgetown who turned in a 36-hole total 303-311-614 to win by three shots over second place Notre Dame. and St. John's. Seton Hall was fourth followed by Connecticut, Rutgers, Boston College, Villanova and the Friars.

Georgetown's Andreas Huber took the individual title with a one-under par 69-72-141 to win the tournament by seven strokes over Notre Dame's Willie Kent.

The Friars were led by sophomore Dean Cashman who tied for 27th with an 85-79-164. Rich Dichard tied for 36th with a 36-hole total of 84-86-170. Sophomore Chris Hynes tied for 39th with an 83-89-172. Sophomore Justin Monahan was 43rd with a 90-86-176 and Rob Brennan, who disqualified on Saturday shot an 86 on Sunday.
