PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (4-6, 2-4) HOCKEY NOTES:

FRIARS WIN TWO AGAINST NORTHEASTERN... The Providence College Friars won two games against Northeastern on November 19-20. On November 19, the Friars ended a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Northeastern at Matthews Arena. Sophomore Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) led the Friars with two second period goals. Sophomore Drew Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) added an empty net goal to seal the win for PC. Freshman Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) made his second start in net and recorded his first collegiate victory after making 35 saves. The following night, senior Doug Sheppard (Georgetown, Ontario) registered his first collegiate hat trick to lead the Friars to a 4-1 win against Northeastern at PC's Schneider Arena. Freshman Mike Lucci (Parma, Ohio) netted the Friars' other goal. Schaefer registered 31 stops for the Friars.

SHEPPARD TALLIES FIRST HAT TRICK... Senior captain Doug Sheppard (Georgetown, Ontario) registered five points (three goals, two assists), including a hat trick, in PC's two wins against Northeastern on November 19-20. On November 19, Sheppard notched two assists in PC's 3-1 win at NU. The following night, the senior captain recorded his first collegiate hat trick and tallied the game-winning goal in PC's 4-1 victory over the Huskies at Schneider Arena. Sheppard leads the Friars in scoring (11 points), goals (eight) and power-play goals (seven).

SCHAEFER SHUTS DOWN HUSKIES... Freshman goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) stopped 66 of 68 Northeastern shots and backstopped the Friars to two HOCKEY EAST wins against the Huskies on November 19-20. On November 19, Schaefer registered 35 saves in a 3-1 win at Northeastern. For Schaefer, it was his first collegiate win in his second start. On November 20, he recorded 31 stops in PC's 4-1 win against the Huskies at Schneider Arena. In the two games, Schaefer recorded a 2-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average and a .971 save percentage.

PISANI CONTINUES TO CLIMB PC SCORING CHART... Senior left wing Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta) recorded two assists in PC's 4-1 victory against Northeastern on November 20. Pisani now ranks 26th on the PC all-time scoring chart with 123 points (44 goals, 79 assists) in 119 games. Pisani is tied for second on the team in scoring this season with eight points (two goals, six assists). His two assists against Northeastern on November 20 was his third multiple-point game of the season and the 32nd of his career. Last season, Pisani finished first on the team in assists (37) and second on the squad in scoring (51 points). He has recorded three or more points in a game 12 times in his career and has registered four or more points in a game four times in his career. He is a 1996 eighth-round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers.

FREGOE POSTS TWO-GOAL GAME... Sophomore Peter Fregoe recorded his first collegiate two-goal game and earned the No. 1 star in PC's 3-1 win over Northeastern on November 19 at Matthews Arena. The following night, he recorded one assist in PC's 4-1 win against Northeastern. His two-goal effort was his second multiple-point game of the season. Fregoe is tied for second on the team in scoring with eight points (three goals, five assists) in 10 games. Fregoe, who is playing his first season of college hockey, came to Providence after one of the most successful seasons ever in the USHL. Fregoe tallied 103 points last season for the Des Moines Buccaneers. For his efforts he was named USA Hockey's Junior Player of the Year, the USHL Most Valuable Player, the USHL Top Forward and First Team All-USHL.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE VS. NON-LEAGUE OPPONENTS... This season, the Friars have compiled a 2-2 record against non-league opponents. PC has a 2-1 mark against CCHA teams and a 0-1 record against WCHA teams. In 1998-99, the Friars recorded a 6-4 mark against non-league opponents.

THIS WEEK... The Friars will play three non-conference home games next week. On Tuesday, November 23, PC will host ECAC foe Cornell at 7:00 p.m. On November 26-27, the Friars will battle WCHA foes Colorado College and Denver. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

THE PROVIDENCE-CORNELL SERIES... Tuesday's game will be the 18th meeting between the two schools. Providence holds an 8-8-1 mark in the all-time series. The two teams first met on March 9, 1971 with Cornell defeating Providence, 6-3, at Lynah Rink. PC's last win against the Big Red was a 7-3 victory at Lynah Rink on January 5, 1999. The Friars' last loss to Cornell was a 4-3 defeat in triple overtime in the opening game of the Syracuse Invitational Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. on Dec. 27, 1996.

PC VS. CORNELL AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... The Friars have posted a 3-1-3 mark against Cornell at Schneider Arena. PC's last win against the Big Red at Schneider Arena was a 5-4 overtime victory on November 30, 1991. PC's only loss to Cornell at Schneider Arena was a 5-3 defeat on February 24, 1981.

LAST SEASON VS. CORNELL... Last season, the Friars earned a 7-3 victory against Cornell on Jan. 5, 1999 in Ithaca, N.Y. Troy Lake led the Friar offense with two goals in the third period, including the game winner. Heath Gordon, Fernando Pisani, Mike Omicioli, Matt Libby and Nick Lent also scored for PC. Boyd Ballard made 21 stops in net while earning his sixth win of the season.

PC VS. CORNELL MARATHON... On December 27, 1996, Cornell defeated the Friars, 4-3, in triple overtime in the opening game of the Syracuse Invitational Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. The game ended after Cornell's David Adler scored in the third overtime after 95 minutes and 14 seconds of action. It is the sixth longest game in NCAA history and the longest contest in the 49 seasons of Providence College hockey.

THE PROVIDENCE COLORADO COLLEGE SERIES... Friday's game will be the ninth game all-time between the two schools. PC has posted a 3-5 mark in the all-time series against Colorado College. The Tigers won the first meeting ever between the two teams, 8-5, at Brown's Meehan Auditorium on January 3, 1964. PC's last win against Colorado College was a 2-1 victory on January 2, 1987 at Schneider Arena. In the last meeting between the teams, the Tigers defeated the Friars, 7-3, at the Broadmoor World Arena on January 16, 1988.

PC VS. COLORADO COLLEGE AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... The Friars have posted a 2-1 mark against Colorado College at Schneider Arena. PC's last win against the Tigers at Schneider Arena was a 2-1 victory on January 2, 1987. PC's last loss to Colorado College at Schneider Arena was a 4-3 defeat on November 23, 1984.

THE PROVIDENCE-DENVER SERIES... Saturday's game will be the 12th meeting all-time between the two schools. The Friars hold a 6-5 advantage in the all-time series. In the first meeting ever for the two schools, the Pioneers defeated the Friars, 6-4, at Schneider Arena. The Friars' last win against Denver was a 7-3 victory on November 9, 1991 at DU Arena. The last time PC lost to Denver, the Pioneers earned a 3-2 double overtime win at Magness Arena on October 16, 1999.

PC VS. DENVER AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... The Friars have posted a 2-2 mark against Denver at Schneider Arena. PC's last win against the Pioneers at Schneider Arena was a 4-2 victory on January 7, 1989. PC's last loss to Denver at Schneider Arena was a 3-0 shutout on January 3, 1987.

PC VS. DENVER THIS SEASON... On October 16, the Friars were defeated by Denver, 3-2, in double overtime of the Championship Game of the Ice Breaker Tournament. Senior Doug Sheppard and freshman Jon DiSalvatore each scored one goal for the Friars. Junior Boyd Ballard made 33 stops in 84 minutes and 25 seconds of action.
