Elissa Cunane is in the midst of her first season as an assistant coach at Providence College. She was hired by Head Coach Erin Batth in June 2025.
Cunane enters the coaching profession after an exceptional playing career at NC State (2018-22) and in the professional ranks. She was a three-time Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association All-American with the Wolfpack and a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player. Additionally, she was a three-time Lisa Leslie Award Top-Five finalist in 2020, 2021 and 2022. As a senior, she was named WBCA All-American, which recognizes the nation’s top 10 players regardless of position.
In four seasons at NC State, the 6-5 center compiled 1,855 points, 986 rebounds, 158 assists and 114 blocked shots. She finished the 2021-22 season as the only center in the nation to shot better than 50-percent from the field overall (.531), 40-percent from three-point territory (.419) and 80-percent from the free throw line (.835).
Batth was and assistant coach at NC State from 2018-22 and was Cunane’s position coach during each of her four seasons with the Wolfpack.
Cunane excelled in the classroom, having earned Co-SIDA Academic All-America accolades in 2021. She also was a three-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree. She graduated Cum Laude in 2022 with a degree in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology and a minor in business administration.
Upon graduation, Cunane was selected in the second round of the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm with the 17th pick. During her career she also played for the Minnesota Lynx. She played professionally overseas in the Czech Republic for Zabiny Brno Basketball (2022-25).
