Dermot Galvin (So., Kilrush, Ireland)...
Galvin placed second (14:45.13) in the 5,000 meters and earned All-BIG EAST honors at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. on Sunday, May 7.

Rachel Hixson (Jr., Media, Pa.)...
Hixson placed second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:03.81. With her second-place finish, she earned All-BIG EAST accolades and qualified for the ECAC Championship.

SOFTBALL (21-28, 3-13 BIG EAST)...
The Providence College softball team ended their 2000 season by splitting their doubleheader with Brown University, winning game one, 1-0, and then dropping game two, 2-0 in eight innings. In game one, PC broke a 0-0 tie and scored the lone run in the bottom of the seventh as pinch runner Melissa Francz (Westfield, N.J.) crossed home plate on an error. PC's Melissa Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) got her 13th win on the season, striking out eight batters in seven innings. Brown's Aleana Sutton fell to 3-7 on the mound, allowing four hits. Game two was also a 0-0 tie until the top of the eighth when Liz Lefler knocked a RBI double to left center, and Erin Durlesser followed up with a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Erin Connors. Brown's Durlesser improved to 4-9 on the year, giving up six hits in nine innings of work. PC's Robyn West (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) pitched the first 4.1 innings, giving up four hits, while Peterson closed out the final 3.2 innings, allowing two hits and two runs for the loss. The Friars ended their 2000 season at 21-28 overall.

MEN'S LACROSSE (5-10, 4-5)...
The Friars closed out the season on May 6 with a 14-11 loss to Albany at PC's Glay Field. Sophomore Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Friars with three goals. Senior Ken Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) added two goals and three assists to finish his career as the College's all-time leading scorer with 191 points (115 goals, 76 assists) in 58 games. Senior Kevin Kelley (Needham, Mass.), freshman John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) and senior Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) all combined to make 11 saves in net.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK...
The Providence College men's track team scored 16 points and finished 12th of 13 teams at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. on Sunday, May 7. The Friars were led by sophomore Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland). Galvin placed second (14:45.13) in the 5,000 meters and earned All-BIG EAST honors. Sophomore Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) was PC's second highest scorer, finishing fourth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:52.46. Junior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland) finished sixth and scored in the 10,000 meters in a time of 32:04.54.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK...
The Providence College women's track team scored 11 points and finished 13th at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship in Piscataway, N.J. on Sunday, May 7. The Friars were led by junior Rachel Hixson (Media, Pa.) who placed second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:03.81. With her second-place finish, Hixson earned All-BIG EAST accolades and qualified for the ECAC Championship. Freshman Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) ran strong for PC, finishing eighth (4:34.69) and scoring in the 1,500 meter finals. Sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) also scored for the Friars with her eight-place finish (9:58.44) in the 3,000 meters.
