Friars Ranked 10th In NACDA Directors' Cup Standings
Dec. 5, 2002
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College finished the fall sports season ranked 10th in the Division I NACDA Directors' Cup standings with 123 points based on the Friars' fall sports finishes nationally in men's and women's cross country. The NACDA Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. Each national championship receives 100 points.
Currently, Providence is the top BIG EAST school in the rankings overall, one spot ahead of Villanova (120 points). Stanford leads the standings (190) points with Wake Forest (163 points) and Colorado (155 points) rounding out the top-three spots.
Providence received its 123 points based on the men's and women's cross country teams' finishes at the NCAA Championships in November. The PC women's cross country team finished sixth and received 72 points. The men's team finished 13th and received 51 points.
In addition to Providence and Villanova, other BIG EAST schools ranked in the top 20 are Georgetown (12th -- 118 points) and Notre Dame (13th -- 115 points).
Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's web site at www.nacda.com.
