Keith Kelly (Sr., Drogheda, Ireland)... Kelly won the men's individual title in a time of 29:30, 16 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 13 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Kelly helped the men's team finish second behind Iona (51 points) and qualify for its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
Heather Cappello (So., Lockport, N.Y.)... Cappello captured the individual title in a time of 17:12 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on November 13 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Cappello helped the team finish first and qualify for its 11th consecutive NCAA Championship.
Sarah Katinger (So., Stratford, Conn.)...The sophomore hitter was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week as she led PC to a 2-0 week with wins at Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Katinger had 36 kills and 30 digs while hitting .298 for the week.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY... The 17h-ranked PC women's cross country team scored 62 points and captured its second consecutive NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on November 13 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Sophomore Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. led the Friars by capturing the individual title in a time of 17:12. In addition to Cappello, sophomore Claire Shearman of Portsmouth, N.H. and junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. were the other Friar finishers in the top 10. Shearman finished third in a time of 17:20 and Hixson placed eighth in a time of 17:32. Also scoring for the PC women's team were senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (16th - 17:44) and sophomore Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (34th - 18:02). The women's teams returns to action on Nov. 22 at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championship in Bloomington, Indiana. The women's team will be making its 11th consecutive appearance.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (0-0)...The Friars closed the two-game preseason with an 84-72 win over the One World All-Stars Sunday night at the Providence Civic Center. Erron Maxey (Jr., Lake Elsinore, Calif.) and Jamaal Camah (Jr., Salem, Mass.) led four Friars in double figures in the win. Both players collected double-doubles in the victory. Maxey had a game-high 28 points with 13 rebounds while Camah had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were junior center David Murray (New York, N.Y.) who had 12 points with seven rebounds and freshman Marcus Jefferson who collected ten points in the game. The game was tied 41-41 at the half with PC breaking it open in the second half for the 84-72 win. PC opens the regular season on Saturday, November 20th versus Holy Cross in a 7:30 p.m. game at the Providence Civic Center.
VOLLEYBALL (16-11/8-3) ...The Friars closed the 1999 regular season with a pair of road wins at Pittsburgh (3-1) and at West Virginia (3-0) over the weekend. The two wins gave the Friars an 8-3 record in the BIG EAST which was good for third place overall. PC opens the BIG EAST Tournament at Pittsburgh on Friday, November 19th against sixth-seeded Syracuse in a 2:30 p.m. game. A Friar victory would put them in the semifinals on Saturday. Versus Pittsburgh, Sarah Katinger (So., Stratford, Conn.) led PC with 26 kills and added 13 digs. Annie Cella (So., Burr Ridge, Ill.) follwoed with 21 kills and 16 digs in the win as the Friars won15-10, 15-9, 5-15 and 15-13.
On Sunday at West Virginia, the Friars took three in a row, 15-10, 15-11 and 15-8. Katinger and Cella combined for 23 kills and 27 digs in the win.
MEN'S HOCKEY (2-6, 0-4)... The Friars posted a 0-2 record against the New Hampshire Wildcats last week. On November 12, the Friars were defeated by New Hampshire, 3-2, in overtime on a goal by Sean Austin at 1:31 of the extra period at Durham, N.H. PC's goals were scored by freshman Shawn Weiman (Marshall, Saskatchewan) and senior Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta). Freshman goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) made his first collegiate start and recorded 19 stops in the loss. The following night, the Friars were defeated in their home opener by UNH, 2-1. PC's only goal was scored by senior Doug Sheppard (Georgetown, Ontario). Junior Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) registered 23 saves for the Friars.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY... PC's 20th-ranked men's team scored 57 points and finished second behind Iona (51 points) at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 13 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Senior Keith Kelly of Drogheda, Ireland won the men's individual title in a time of 29:30 -- 16 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Sophomore Dermot Galvin of Kilrush, Ireland and sophomore Paul Reilly of Loughrea, Ireland also finished in the top 10 for the PC men's team. Galvin was sixth (30:16) and Reilly placed seventh (30:18). Freshmen Adam Sutton of Preston, England (19th - 30:47) and Chris Livesey of Preston, England (24th - 30:54) rounded out the scoring for the Friars. The men's team returns to action on Nov. 22 at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championship in Bloomington, Indiana. The team will be making its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY (4-2-0)(3-1-0)... The Friars split a home and home weekend series with Northeastern on Nov. 12 and 13. On Friday, at Schneider Arena PC was shutout by Northeastern, 2-0. Junior goaltender Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) stopped 22 shots in the loss. The following night the PC women rebounded, and shutout Northeastern, 2-0 at Matthews Arena, in Boston. Junior forward Jessica Tabb led the Friars' attack, registering a goal and an assist. Freshman Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) scored her first career goal, while sophomore Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added two assists. The Friars will return to action on Saturday November 20, at 2:00 p.m. when they host ECAC rival Dartmouth, at Schneider Arena.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING (1-2)( 2-1)... Providence College women's swimming and diving defeated Sacred Heart University, 154-88 on Nov. 10 at Taylor Natatorium. The team was led by junior Lori Cosman's (Newburgh, N.Y.) double victory in the 200-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle. With the win the women improved to 2-1 on the season.
The PC men were defeated by Boston College, 184-11, on Nov.9, at PC's Taylor Natatorium. Junior Michael Frenza (Watertown, Conn.) led the Friars, posting victories in the 200- meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and took third in the 400-meter freestyle. The loss dropped the Friars record to 1-2 on the season.
The Providence men and women will return to action on Nov. 20, when they travel to Holy Cross, in Worcester, Mass.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (0-0)... The women's basketball team defeated the Nor'Easter Storm, 91-74, in preseason action on November 11 at PC's Alumni Hall. PC senior Meghan Hinds (Perrysburg, Ohio) scored a game-high 19 points, including 13 in the second half, to lead the Friar offense. Junior Monika Roberts of Pittsburg, Calif. (14 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore Catrina Hawley-Stewart of West Haven, Conn. (10 points, 14 rebounds) each recorded a double-double for the Friars. Providence returns to action on Saturday, November 20 when the Friars open the season against George Mason at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
