Friars Ranked 69th in NACDA Directors' Cup Standings After Winter Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College finished the winter sports season ranked 69th in the NACDA Directors' Cup standings (163.5 points) released on May 1 after the final winter standings. The NACDA Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. Each national championship receives 100 points.

Currently, Providence is eighth in the BIG EAST Conference behind Notre Dame (sixth - 664 points), Villanova (27th - 410.5 points), Miami (38th - 337 points), Connecticut (39th - 335 points), Pittsburgh (45th - 260.5 points), Boston College (51st - 232 points), and West Virginia (58th - 196.5 points). Stanford leads the standings (1052 points) with Penn State (871 points) and Michigan (842.5 points) rounding out the top-three spots.

Providence received its 163.5 points based on the men's and women's cross country teams' finishes at the NCAA Championships in November and the women's indoor track squad's finish at the NCAA Championship in March. The PC women's cross country team finished sixth and received 72 points and the men's team finished 13th and received 51 points. The women's indoor track team earned 40.5 points after finishing 32nd at the NCAA Championship.
