PC's Kevin Gorey Selected To Serve As Athletic Trainer For USA Basketball Trainer At 1999 Pan Am Games

Providence, Rhode Island - Providence College basketball athletic trainer Kevin Gorey has been selected by the United States Olympic Committee to serve as a member of the USA medical staff at this summer's XIII Pan American Games. The 1999 Pan Am games will be played in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada from July 24th to August 8th. In addition to the appointment by the USOC, Gorey has been chosen to serve as the athletic trainer for the men's basketball team by USA Basketball, the governing body for basketball in the United States.

The 30-year old Gorey just finished his third season at Providence College. He was selected for the position with the United States team after serving with the United States Olympic Committee's Volunteer program which is based on professional evaluations. Last summer, he spent two weeks at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York in the initial evaluation session.

A 1991 graduate of Ithaca College with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training/Exercise Science, Gorey recieved his Master's Degree for Community Health Education from Syracuse University in 1993.

He had served as an assistant athletic trainer at Syracuse and the United States Military Academy before coming to Providence College.

In 1996, the native of Beacon, New York worked at the Olympic games in Atlanta where he was Chief Athletic Trainer for men's volleyball.

A member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, Gorey and his wife, Margaret reside in Warwick, Rhode Island.
