Kerri Jacklets (Jr., Sayville, N.Y.) led the softball team to a 6-2 week, batting, .375 over the eight games, with seven runs scored, four RBIs, three doubles and one triple. She knocked a RBI double in the sixth inning to defeat Seton Hall, 2-1.

Ciaran Lynch (Jr., Limerick, Ireland).. won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:24.60 at Brown University on Saturday April 15.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... The Providence College men's track team scored 38 points and finished sixth at Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 15. The Friars were led by sophomore Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) and junior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland). Galvin captured the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:55.31 and Lynch won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:24.60. Sophomore Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) and freshman Chris Livesey (Preston, England) both finished strong in the 800 meters. Thorpe finished second (1:51.89) and Livesey placed third (1:51.89).

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK... The Providence College women's track team scored 54 points and finished fourth of six teams at Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 15. Freshman Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), sophomore Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) all earned a first-place finish for the Friars. O'Shea won the 800 meters in a time of 2:12.92 and Shearman placed first in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:48.24. Cappello won the 1,500 meters (4:32.94) and was the first of four Friars to finish in the top five positions in the race. Sophomore Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (second, 4:34.14), junior Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (third, 4:35.06) and senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (fifth, 4:44.06) all finished strong in the 1,500 meters.

SOFTBALL (18-19, 3-5 BIG EAST)...The Providence College softball team went 6-2 this week, sweeping their non-conference opponents Holy Cross, 10-0 and 8-0, and Hartford, 4-2 and 5-3. The Friars also went 2-2 with BIG EAST foes St. John's and Seton Hall. PC split their twinbill with the Red Storm on April 15, losing game one, 2-0 ,and winning game two, 5-1. On April 16, the Friars, lost the first game, 4-1, and picked up the second game, 2-1.

For the week, PC was led by junior Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.), who batted .375 over the eight games, with seven runs scored, four RBIs, three doubles and one triple. She knocked a RBI double in the sixth inning to defeat Seton Hall, 2-1. The Friars also had a strong performance this week from freshman Amber Carr (Ventura, Calif.). The rookie shortstop batted .333 with nine RBIs, two doubles and three home runs. Carr knocked a three-run homer in PC's 5-3 win at Hartford. Freshman Missy Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) was 4-2 in her six appearances. In 41 innings, she fanned 29 batters and pitched her second shutout of the season against Holy Cross.

This week, PC will host Boston College (April 18) and Dartmouth College (April 19) for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Friars then travel to Connecticut on April 22 for a double bill at noon.

MEN'S GOLF...The Providence College golf team finished fourth at the Mohegan Sun/Big Five Golf Tournament on Tuesday, April 11th at the Point Judith Country Club. The Friars turned in a 42-over par 322 over the 6,433-yard, par 70 course. Central Connecticut won the tournament with a 23-over par mark of 303.

Leading the way for the Friars individually was junior Justin Monahan (Winchester, Mass.) who shot a seven-over par 77 to finish six strokes behind Connecticut's Greg Stebbins who won the tournament with a 71.

Dean Cashman (Jr., Etna, N.H.) tied for 14th with an 80 and was followed by Chris Hynes (Jr., Warwick, R.I.) who tied for 16th with an 81.

Steve O'Brien (So., Cranston, R.I.) and Ryan Shaw (Fr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) each saw their first collegiate action with O'Brien turning in an 84, which was good for 22nd overall and Shaw shot an 88 which tied him for 24th on the leaderboard.

Providence is next in action on April 18-19 when the Friars compete at the New England Division I Championships which will be held at the Country Club of Fairfield in Fairfield, Connecticut.

MEN'S LACROSSE (5-7, 4-4)... The Friars lost two games last week. On April 12, PC was defeated by Canisius, 15-11, at Buffalo, N.Y. Junior Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) tallied four goals to lead the Friar offense. Sophomore Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) and senior Ken Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) each scored two goals. Senior goalkeeper Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) made a season-high 23 stops in the loss. On April 15, PC lost to Manhattan, 8-2, at PC's Glay Field. Dooley and senior Brian Walker (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) each scored for PC. McCarthy made seven saves for PC.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (16-7)(7-6)...The squad posted a 1-2 record during a three-match road trip to Mountclair, Va. The Friars defeated Pittsburgh 5-0, on April 15, before losing to West Virginia 5-3, on April 15 and Georgetown 5-4, on April 16. Junior Alison Carton (Millburn, N.J.) paced the squad, posting 3-0 record, while competing in the No. 2 singles position. Senior Jessie LeMasters (Cincinnati, Ohio) also recorded a 3-0 record for the week, in the No. 3 singles spot. The team will return to action on April 19 at the BIG EAST Championships, at Miami, Fla.

MEN'S TENNIS (11-7)(9-6)... The squad posted a 1-3 record last week, dropping matches to Connecticut on April 11 (2-5), Boston College on April 13 (3-4) and St. John's on April 15 (0-6) while defeating Holy Cross on April 12 (7-0). Craig Roslund (Huntington, N.Y.), Pat Moynihan (Queensbury, N.Y.), Paco Fabian (Norwalk, Conn.), Keith Dressler (Cranston, R.I.), Matt Jarvis (Fairhaven, Mass.) and John Sayward (Branford, Conn.) all claimed singles victories during the week. The team will return to action on April 17, at the University of Hartford.
