Providence College Student-Athletes Participate In Reading Week At Local Elementary Schools

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College student-athletes from six different teams within the athletic department have been active participants in Reading Week at local area elementary schools. The six teams who represented the athletic department were men's and women's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, field hockey and women's volleyball.

Athletes from each of the participating teams spent time at local elementary schools reading books with young students in an effort to educate younsters on the importance of reading. Reading Week is recognized during the week of April 8-12.

Some of the athletes and coaches that participated in the event were men's basketball players Ryan Gomes (Francis Elementary), Donnie McGrath (Ashton) and Romuald Augustin (Ashton). Men's basketball players also attended St. Augustine's School, West Broadway, Drumrock Elementary and Anthony Carnevale Elementary. Senior Kacee Wheeler and juniors Katie Keefe and Kristin Quinn were among some of the women's basketball players who attended Stadium School in Warwick, R.I. Head Field Hockey Coach Diane Madl, along with her assistant coach Tina Cormier and several players, attended Robert Kennedy in Providence, R.I. Men's ice hockey visited St. Augustine, Ashton and Cumberland Hill School Annex, while women's ice hockey participated with Anthony Carnevale Elementary School in Providence, R.I. The women's volleyball team attended Robertson Elementary in Central Falls, R.I.
