Brooke Rubin (So., Cranston, R.I.)... Rubin posted a 2-0 singles record last week, while playingin the No. 1 singles position. On March 25, Rubin defeated Boston University's Selin Nassi, 6-4, 6-2 then on March 26, she defeated Rutger'sDonna Krouzman 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.
Chris Houston (So., Garden City, N.Y.)... Houston tallied nine goals and one assist in PC's two lacrosse games last week. In the Friars' 15-3 win over Siena on March 22, Houston tallied a career high five goals. On March 29, he scored four goals and notched one assist in PC's 8-7 loss to Denver.

SOFTBALL (7-11)
The Providence College softball team went 1-3 this week, losing a doubleheader at Boston University, 0-1 and 1-4, while splitting their home opener with Yale, winning game one, 3-0, and losing game two, 2-1. Against the Terriers, Gwyn Mangini (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) led the PC offense with a double and a single, while Jamie Servidone (Rensselaer, N.Y.) added three hits and Nicole Nelson (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) added two. Robyn West (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) took one loss, only giving up three hits to 29 batters faced. In the second game, Melissa Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) picked up her third loss on the mound, giving up three hits and two runs in three innings, while Heather Nathan (South Hemptead, N.Y.) pitched the last four, giving up seven hits and two runs. Versus the Bulldogs, Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.) and Amber Carr (Ventura, Calif.) had two doubles throughout the day. Jacklets finished 2-for-5 while Carr went 2-for-6. West pitched a strong seven innings in game one, giving up one run and four hits to get her fourth win of the year, while Nathan dropped to 1-3 on the mound, giving up five hits and two runs in seven innings. PC plays a doubleheader at Fairfield University on March 28th and then hosts Sacred Heart in a twinbill at PC's Glay Field on March 30th at 2:00 p.m. The Friars then enter league play when they travel to Pittsburgh (April 1) and Notre Dame (April 2).

Results from the Embry-Riddle Golf Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida held on March 14-15 were unavailable.
MEN'S LACROSSE (5-1, 4-0)
The Friars posted a 1-1 mark last week. On March 22, PC earned a 15-3 win against Siena at Loudonville, N.Y. Sophomore Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Friar offense with five goals. Juniors Jeff Merklinger (South Orange, N.J.) and Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) each added two goals. Senior goalkeeper Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) made 17 saves in the win. On March 25, PC suffered its first defeat of the season with an 8-7 loss to Denver at Glay Field. Houston again was the offensive star for the Friars registering four goals. McCarthy made 14 stops in the loss.
WOMEN'S TENNIS (14-2)(5-1)
The squad posted a 1-1 record last week. On March 25, the Friars dropped a 6-1 decision to Boston University, sophomore Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.) captured a victory, playing in the No. 1 singles position, On March 26, the squad rebounded to defeat Rutgers 6-3, in Piscataway, N.J. The team was led by Rubin and junior Alison Carton (Millburn, N.J.), who claimned singles victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively. The doubles teams of Rubin/Carton, Jesse Lemasters (Cincinnati, Ohio)/Gina Vlasek (Atlanta, Ga.) and Katie Lafayette (Stoughton, Mass.)/Courtney Maloy (Cotuit, Mass.) swept Rutgers in the doubles competition.The team will return to action April 1, versus Temple University, at 3:00 p.m.
