Jeff Merklinger (Jr., South Orange, N.J.)... Merklinger tallied seven goals in PC's two overtime lacrosse wins last week. On March 15, Merklinger scored four goals in PC's 10-9 win versus Sacred Heart. On March 19, he scored three goals in the Friars' 10-9 win against Quinnipiac.
Brian McCarthy (Sr., Townsend, Mass)... McCarthy made 37 saves in PC's two lacrosse wins last week. On March 15, he registered 15 saves in PC's 10-9 overtime win against Sacred Heart. On March 19, McCarthy recorded a season-high 22 stops in PC's 10-9 overtime win versus Quinnipiac.

SOFTBALL (6-8)
The Providence College softball team recorded a 1-3 record at the Winthrop Invitational last weekend in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Friars opened the Tournament with a 6-1 win in eight innings over the College of Charleston. Robyn West (Jr., Gansevoort, N.Y.) went the distance in recording her third win of the season. Third baseman Nicole Nelson (Jr., Belle Harbor, N.Y.) hit her first home run of the season. Sarah Morin (Fr., Westerly, N.Y.) and Lynette Rosa each drove in a pair of runs. In the second game of the tournament versus the University of Tennessee-Martin, Heather Nathan (Sr., So. Hempstead, N.Y.) hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to give PC a 2-1 lead. West (3-3), in relief of Melissa Peterson (Fr., Los Alamitos, Calif.) then gave up a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 loss. On Saturday, the Friars got just one hit in a 7-0 loss to East Carolina. In PC's final game at the tournament, the Friars were handed a second consecutive shutout as Charleston Southern handed the Black and White an 11-0 white-washing. Nathan led the Friars with a 2-for-3 game at the plate. PC plays a doubleheader at Boston University on March 22nd then hosts Yale in a twinbill at PC's Glay Field on March 26th at 12 noon.

Results from the Embry-Riddle Golf Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida held on March 14-15 were unavailable.
MEN'S LACROSSE (4-0, 3-0)
The Friars posted a 2-0 mark last week with two overtime wins. On March 15, PC earned a 10-9 overtime win against Sacred Heart at Glay Field. Freshman Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) tallied the game winner in overtime for PC. Junior Jeff Merklinger led the Friar offense with four goals. Senior goalkeeper Brian McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) made 15 saves in the win. On March 19, PC defeated Quinnipiac, 10-9, in overtime at Glay Field. Senior Ken Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the extra period. Leahy led PC with three goals and two assists in the game. McCarthy made a season-high 22 stops in the win. PC's 4-0 record marks only the second time in the history of the program the Friars have opened the season with four consecutive wins and the first time since 1983.
