Friars Announce Travel Plans For NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
March 10, 2001
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Athletics Department has teamed up with Worldtek Travel in order to accommodate fans of the school's men's basketball team who wish to follow the Friars to the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Providence will be sent to one of eight pre-determined sites for First Round competition on either Thursday, March 15 or Friday, March 16. The team will learn its destination on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. via the televised NCAA Basketball Selection Show which will air on CBS.
Since the sites will not be known until Sunday, exact costs and travel accommodations are not available in advance. Accordingly, the school has developed a plan to distribute its very limited allotment of 350 tickets provided by the NCAA for those fans interested in obtaining travel packages for all sites excluding Uniondale, N.Y. These packages will include airfare, hotel, game tickets and transfers to the game site from the hotel.
Beginning on Monday morning, March 12 at 8:30 a.m., WorldTek Travel will have agents on hand to accept telephone calls and obtain credit card information. Priority will be given to Friar Front Court Club members, basketball season ticket holders and Alumni contributors. Orders will be filled on a priority basis. All callers will be phoned back on Monday afternoon/evening and informed about exact travel costs and notified whether or not they are eligible to purchase tickets and travel according to the priority system.
Fans interested in purchasing game tickets only should call the Providence College Ticket Office at (401) 865-GOPC. The same will hold true if Providence should be sent to Uniondale, N.Y.
Telephone numbers to make inquiries about travel accommodations for all sites excluding Uniondale, N.Y. are as follows:
