Student-Athlete Leadership Council Gets Involved

Jan. 30, 2001

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Student-Athlete Leadership Council is getting involved in the campus community. The council raised $200 in an effort to assist with programs during Project S.A.V.E. Week (Sexual Assault and Violence Education) being held on the Providence College campus.

Project S.A.V.E. is a week-long program taking place on the PC campus from February 12-16, 2001. The S.A.V.E. program will address issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and healthy communication between dating partners. Throughout the week, student-athletes will be participating in several programs, including Men Against Rape (Thursday, February 15, 7:00 p.m. in Guzman Hall Chapel), the Clothesline Project and the Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program (Y.A.A.P.P.).

Student-Athlete Leadership Council representatives Julie Tanguay (President), Holley Tyng (Vice President) and Matt Libby (Secretary) donated a $200 check to Program Organizers Maureen Genoa and Tim Mansfield on January 30, 2001.

Program Organizers as well as the program participants encourage everyone to attend. The week of events will begin with a special mass in St. Dominic Chapel, recognizing those who suffer from relationship violence. Mass will be followed by a candlelight march across campus to the Slavin Center.
