The Friars will return to action next weekend (Friday, Oct. 2nd) in Villanova, Pa. at 6:00 p.m. to face the Villanova University Wildcats.

PROVIDENCE R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (8-5, 0-2 BIG EAST) fell to Marquette University (7-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) in straight sets (3-0) in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Alumni Hall.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Golden Eagles took set one, 25-14. 
  • The Friars led 9-8 forcing an early Marquette timeout. 
  • The Golden Eagles took the lead 17-11 following a 9-2-point run. 
  • Marquette maintained the lead, winning the set 25-14. 
  • Sophomore Fielding Mayhugh (Weston, Mass.) led the set with two block assists. 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette took set two, 25-19, and led the match, 2-0.
  • Providence opened the set with a 5-0 run.
  • Both teams traded points and eventually deadlocked at 16-16.
  • Marquette took the lead and maintained it, winning 25-19. 
  • Sophomore Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) led the Friars' attack with four kills. 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Golden Eagles took set three, 25-23, to sweep the match. 
  • Junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) notched a service ace and got the Friars within one (10-11).
  • Marquette extended its lead to19-13 as the Friars were forced to take a timeout. 
  • Providence went on a late three-point run, but Marquette took the set 25-23. 
  • Senior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) led the defense with six digs. 
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Otter led the team with 11 kills, hitting .474 in the match. 
  • Taylor led the match with 15 digs. 
  • The Friars held strong at the net, out-blocking the Golden Eagles 8.0-6.0.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will return to action next weekend (Friday, Oct. 2nd) at Villanova. The match will be played in Villanova, Pa. at 6:00 p.m.
