PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College guard
Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a sixth time this season on Monday, Feb. 9.
In a 1-1 week for the Friars, Gueye averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting .531 from the field (17-32).
On Feb. 4 against Marquette, she was limited to 20 minutes of action due to foul trouble and finished the game with 10 points, one rebound and one steal. Gueye closed the week with a career-high 29 points on 13-23 shooting to help the Friars defeat Xavier on Feb. 8. She also added a game-high nine rebounds and five steals to go along with two assists and one blocked shot.
Gueye is the first BIG EAST player to record at least 29 points, nine rebounds and five steals in a regular-season conference game since Lucy Olsen achieved the feat for Villanova on Dec. 30, 2023. Olsen put up 31 points, nine rebounds and five steals – also against Xavier.
For the season, Gueye is averaging 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She is shooting 50-percent from the field (159-318) and 77-percent from the foul line (54-70).
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11 against Butler. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
