PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Providence College men's hockey national champion Nick Saracino '16 (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Italy's roster for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games set to run from Feb. 5-19. Saracino becomes the second Providence College men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics for Italy, joining Gates Orlando (1992, 1994, 1998). Other men's hockey Olympians include – Paul Guay (1984), Chris Terreri (1988) and Chris Therien (1994). Friar alumni Brian Burke (GM, 2010), Lou Lamoriello (GM, 1998) and Ron Wilson (Head Coach, 1998 & 2010) also served on the U.S. Olympic staffs in previous years. Current Friar Associate Head Coach
Ron Rolston served as an assistant coach for the U.S. at the 2018 Olympics.
Saracino has spent the previous five seasons overseas, the last four in the ICEHL. He is currently a member of HC Pustertal where he has totaled 21 points in 30 games this season. Saracino spent 2022-25 with Asiago of the ICEHL and one season with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia in 2021-22. After Providence, Saracino spent parts of six seasons in the AHL/ECHL with the Iowa Wild, Worcester Railers, Wheeling Nailers, Binghamton Devils and Jacksonville Icemen.
While at Providence College, Saracino amassed 116 points on 46 goals and 70 assists. His career-high 38 points in 2014-15 boosted the Friars to the 2015 National Championship. As an alternate captain in 2015-16, he netted a career-high 14 goals and totaled 32 points in leading the Friars to a 27-win season and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Saracino and Team Italy will begin Preliminary Round play on Feb. 11 against Sweden in Group B action. The other Preliminary Round games will be against Slovakia on Feb. 13 and Finland on Feb. 14.
