Men's Hockey Adds Julius Sumpf To The 2025-26 Roster

Sumpf was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's hockey has added forward Julius Sumpf (Munich, Germany) to the 2025-26 roster after his signing of an athletic aid agreement to attend the College. Sumpf joins the Friars after a two-year career with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL and was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round (98th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 194-pound left-shot forward totaled 120 points on 47 goals and 73 assists in 118 career games with Moncton, including 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points in 58 games during the 2024-25 regular season. He set the QMJHL record with a +61 rating in 2024-25, earning the David Desharnais Trophy as Most Sportsmanlike Player while being effective. He ranked second in the QMJHL playoffs with 10 goals, leading Moncton to the 2025 Gilles-Courteau Trophy as league champions and a Memorial Cup berth.
Sumpf earned invites to NHL Development Camp with the Colorado Avalanche in 2023 and NHL Training Camp with the San Jose Sharks in 2024. Sumpf appeared in two IIHF World Junior Championships with Germany in 2024 and 2025, totaling three goals and seven assists in 10 games over the two tournaments, including seven points in 2025 while serving as an alternate captain. Sumpf also appeared on the international stage for Germany at the 2023 U18 World Championships and the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He is ranked No. 115 in the NHL Central Scouting final rankings among North American skaters entering the 2025 NHL Draft.
