Two Providence College Student-Athletes Finish At The Top Of Their Class

Women’s basketball player Audrey Koch and women’s ice hockey player Hannah Johnson were two of eight Valedictorians in the class of 2025.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two Providence College student-athletes finished at the top of their class and were honored during the College's commencement weekend activities. Women's basketball player Audrey Koch (Iowa City, Iowa) and women's ice hockey player Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) were among the list of eight students to claim the status of Valedictorian, each having earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
It marks the first time in school history that two student-athletes have finished at the top of their class in the same graduation year. Koch and Johnson are the first student-athletes to earn Valedictorian since Theresa Durkee (women's soccer) claimed the honor in 2020. Two years earlier, Kristin Hayman (women's soccer) also finished atop her class in 2018.

Koch, a native of Iowa City, Iowa, played 76 career games for the Friars. She was limited to just 14 games over her final two seasons due to injuries. Soon to be a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, Koch was a psychology major at Providence College and held a minor in sociology. She will attend the University of Iowa next fall to pursue a master's degree in speech-language pathology.
Johnson, a native of Readfield, Maine, played two seasons of ice hockey for the Friars (2023-25) and served as team captain as a senior. She played 70 career games at Providence and totaled 37 points on 12 goals and 25 assists. She was a health policy and management major and will attend dental school at the Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine at Boston University.
