PROVIDENCE R.I. – It was announced today (Oct. 20) that redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass) of the Providence College men's soccer team was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Senior forward
Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
On Friday, Oct. 17 Carney earned his third clean sheet of the season in the Friars 1-0 win over Marquette. He had two saves in the match, including a diving effort to keep the Friars ahead in the first half. Carney has held a .681 save percentage in 15 starts for the Friars. This is Carney's first BIG EAST recognition.
Montalto scored his fourth goal of the season when he connected a header on a corner kick cross from
Ian Abbey (Elmer, N.J.). This is Montalto's second time this season earning BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition, the first time being when he registered two goals in a 3-2 win at Xavier on Sept. 29.
UPNEXT… The Friars will host UConn on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
