Women’s Hockey Defeated In Overtime By No. 12/12 Boston College, 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.– The Providence College women's hockey team fell in overtime to No. 12/12 Boston College, 2-1, on Friday, Jan. 24 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars winning streak ended at seven games and dropped to 14-9-3 on the season and 10-7-2 in Hockey East play. Boston College improved to 17-8-1 overall and 13-5-1 in Hockey East. Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) scored the lone Providence goal in the third period.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
-The two teams skated back-and-forth with chances for each side until the Eagles found the back of the net on a goal from Jenna Carpenter to make it 1-0 15:31 into the first period. Olivia O'Brien and Kara Goulding were credited with the assists.
 
-Shots on goal after 20 minutes were tied, 8-8.
 
-Providence had sustained pressure in the second period and outshot the Eagles 13-9 but the two teams skated scoreless through the frame.
 
-6:02 into the third period, Hannah Johnson scored the game-tying goal on a backhand after a shot from Hannah Clarke (Richmond Hill, Ontario) from the point. Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) picked up the secondary assist.
 
-The teams ended regulation tied, 1-1.
 
-In overtime, Julia Pellerin scored the game winning goal on an odd-man rush assisted by Abby Newhook.
 
-The overtime loss was the first of the season for the Friars, who now move to 2-1-3 in overtime this season.
 
-Providence outshot the Eagles 39-24 on the afternoon.
 
- Hope Walinski recorded 22 saves for the Friars.
 
-The Friars winning streak ended at seven games, while still picking up a point in the loss.
 
-The Eagles earned a 2-1 record during the 2024-25 season series.
