GREECE & CROATIA // AUGUST 5 - 15

The Providence College women's basketball program announced on July 29 that it would be embarking on an international tour to Greece & Croatia. Friends and family can follow the team's progress while abroad on social media via Instagram (providencewbb) and X (@ProvidenceWBB). Additionally, the following blog will be updated daily with videos and photos.

  DAY 1 - TRAVEL DAY: MONDAY, AUGUST 5  

The Friars departed campus for their flight to Athens, Greece. The group will spend three nights in Athens and will spend the first two days sightseeing before playing their opening game of the tour on Thursday, Aug. 8 vs. Amilla Peristeriou Basketball Club.

  DAY 2: TUESDAY, AUGUST 6  

The Friars touched down in Athens, Greece and toured two locations in Athens after enjoying a welcome breakfast. The first location was Kallimarmaro Olympic Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896. The group followed with a tour of the Plaka neighborhood, which is also known as the Old City. Tiny shops, restaurants, cafes line narrow cobblestone streets.

  DAY 3: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7  

The group spent the day on a boat island hopping! The Friars made their way to three of the Greek island, including Hydra, Poros and Aegina.

  DAY 4: THURSDAY, AUGUST 8  

The Friars headed out of the hotel for a morning tour of The Acropolis.

The Acropolis is a large fortified hill in the center of Athens, and it houses several ancient structures, including the Parthenon. The Parthenon is located on top of the Acropolis and is one of the most prominent and iconic buildings, not only in Athens, but the world. After the tour, the group settled in at the hotel for some rest prior to the first game of the tour.

  DAY 5 & 6: AUGUST 9-10  

The Friars closed their time in Greece over the last two days. On Friday, August 9 - the team returned to the Plaka neighborhood to for a lunch and show before departing Athens for a beach resort just outside Glyfada city center. On Saturday, August 10 - the squad took full advantage of the off day at the beach, pool and exploring the shops and restaurants in Glyfada. The team concluded the evening with a wonderful dinner overlooking the Aegean Sea.

  DAY 7: SUNDAY, AUGUST 11  

The team traveled 1 hour and 45 minutes by plane to Split, Croatia. Upon arrival, they enjoyed lunch on their own before taking part in a city tour in the shadow of Diocletian's Palace. Once the tour was complete, the student-athletes and coaches participated in a community service effort at a local orphanage in Split.

  DAY 8: MONDAY, AUGUST 12  

The Friars went on a went on a Ziplining Adventure Tour in Croatia in the afternoon before playing its final game of the tour at 7:00 p.m. (local time). Providence defeated the Croatian All-Stars 64-60. Grace Efosa posted a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals.  DAY 9 & 10: AUGUST 13-14  

The Friars spent their final two days abroad in Dubrovnik, Croatia. A scenic 3-hour bus ride got the team from Split to Dubrovnik, where the group enjoyed lunch within the walls of the Old City before heading out on a Sea Kayaking Tour. On the final day of the trip, the group had time to themselves at either the beach or exploring the city.
