The Athletic Department raised a record $10.7 million in fundraising and a record $8.5 million in ticket sales in the fiscal year ending on June 30.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Vice President and Athletics Director Steve Napolillo announced today (Aug. 5) that, through the help of so many generous alumni, parents, students and friends, Providence College Athletics raised $10.7 Million in the fiscal year that concluded June 30th to support the efforts of the College's student-athletes, coaches, and staff. This figure represents cash raised and does not include pledges or commitments to NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness). This support will elevate the PC student-athlete experience and help the teams compete for BIG EAST, Hockey East, and national championships. The previous record for dollars raised was set last fiscal year (2022 – 2023) when the team raised $7.4M.
Additionally, Providence College Athletics generated $8.5 Million in revenue through ticket sales for Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Ice Hockey, and the program's premiere kick-off event, Late Night Madness. This eclipses last year's record-breaking ticket revenue of $6.8M in revenue. Providence College Men's Basketball program sold out of its season ticket allotment at the Amica Mutual Pavilion for the first time in program history and has followed that up by recording a 99% renewal rate on season tickets for the 2024-25 season. Currently, the wait list for Men's Basketball season tickets exceeds 1,400 seats. Additionally, both the college's Women's Basketball and Men's Ice Hockey programs are on track to grow their season ticket bases for the 2024 – 2025 fiscal year.
"There is a symbiotic relationship between the success of our athletic teams and successful fundraising," said PC President Fr. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. "Our men's and women's athletic teams represent an important gateway to the College and to our national profile. Their success on the courts and playing fields, along with the hard work and day-to-day diligence of the men and women in our Athletics and Institutional Advancement departments, is a major reason we have also been successful at fundraising and ticket sales"
"Providence College's strength has been the alignment of so many internal partners to push our Athletic programs to new highs. Now as we enhance our partnership with Governor McKee, Mayor Smiley, and the Rhode Island Convention Center, we are poised to achieve even greater success," said John Sweeney, Senior Vice President / Chief Financial Officer. "Ultimately, it is the hard work and talent of our Athletic Department that brings this all together creating a fantastic experience for our students, families, alumni, and the entire Friar community. It is also the growing revenue which allows us to make our commitment to athletic excellence."
"Providence College is at a pivotal moment in our history, and I am excited to see how the incredible partnership between Athletics and the Office of Institutional Advancement helps set the stage for the next 100 years," said Greg Waldron, Senior Vice President, Institutional Advancement. "Our shared success is only possible through the generosity of so many. We are blessed to be part of such a supportive community."
"In this ever-changing landscape of college athletics, revenue generation is critical for Providence College as we continue to strive for BIG EAST, Hockey East and national championships," Napolillo said. "We are grateful for all the financial support that our donors, alumni, fans, and season ticket holders have given to help us reach this new historic number. A special thanks to Father Sicard, Greg Waldron, John Sweeney, Kevin Connolly, Andrew Schoepfer, the coaches, the staff, and the student-athletes. Their support is so important to our future success as we compete in this new landscape where name, image and likeness plays an integral role."
"The support of our alumni and fans positions us to compete at the highest level," Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Kim English said. "From fundraising, ticket sales, and NIL - the generosity of our fans fuels our program and for that we are forever grateful."
