The Friars will host FDU Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. and visit Army Sunday, Sep. 1 at 1:00 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to host Fairleigh Dickinson University on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Friars will then play their first road game at Army on Sunday, Sep. 1 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Friars enter the week with a 2-1-0 record. Providence has wins over Rhode Island 1-0 and Holy Cross 2-1. The Friars lost their first game of the season Sunday versus Wisconsin 0-2.
Graduate student Kacey Lawrence (Monroe, Conn.) leads the team with three points on one goal and one assist. Freshman Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) and freshman Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario) have each scored one goal.
TWO MEMBERS OF THE FRIARS QUALIFY FOR THE 2024 FIFA UNDER-20 WORLD CUP… Junior Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) and Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) have qualified for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup 2024 and will represent Canada's National Team. The team will begin their group-stage journey against France on Saturday, Aug. 31.
TOP RETURNERS... The Friars return three All-BIG EAST players this season. Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) was named to the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team after her strong rookie campaign. She finished fourth on the team in points with, nine on two goals and five assists. Briggs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Aug. 21 and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 16. Returners Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) were named to the ALL-BIG EAST third team last season. Bodmer helped the Friars to eight clean sheets and lead the BIG EAST in save percentage (.905), only allowing four goals. Kenney's finished second the team with 13 points on five goals and one assist.
KAYLA BRIGGS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM... Kayla Briggs received preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2024 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors Tuesday (Aug. 13).
BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL... Providence women's soccer was picked to finish fifth in the 2024 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll with 66 points. Providence finished last season with a 4-1-5 record in conference play. The Friars finished fourth in the BIG EAST Last season and reached the BIG EAST Tournament Semi-Final. The Friars are coming off their second NCAA Tournament appearance in the last three years.
NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes nine student-athletes to the program this season including two graduate transfers, two junior transfers and six freshmen. The graduate transfers include Kacey Lawerence (Monroe, Conn.) and Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.). The Junior transfers include Brooke Haarala (Framingham, Mass.) and Olivia Allen (Holland Landing, Ontario).
The incoming freshman class includes Kelly Stepnowski (Glastonbury, Conn.), Amaya Coffie (Warwick, R.I.), Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario), Caitlyn Gratton (Hamilton, Ontario), Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.) and Kirstin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.).
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST FDU... The Friars hold a 1-0-0 all-time record against the Knights. In their only meeting, the Friars won 1-0 in Providence, R.I. in 2018.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS... FDU enters Thursday's contest with a 0-2-1 record. they recorded 0-0 a draw in their season opener against Seton Hall on Aug. 18. The Knights were defeated by Stony Brook 2-3 on Aug. 22 and Navy 203 on Aug. 24. The Knights were picked third in the Northeast Conference Coaches Poll receiving two first place votes.
In 2023, FDU finished 8-11 overall and 8-2 in the Northeast Conference play. The Knights return all four of their All-NEC players from last season. Katia Cárdaba recorded 11 points and earned First Team All-NEC and All-Rookie accolades last season. Ana Salas recorded 13 points and earned Second Team All-NEC and All-Rookie honors last season. Salas has recorded one goal this season. Andrea Ougaard earned Second Team All-NEC honors last season. Laura Martinez earned Second Team All-NEC and All-Rookie honors last season. Martinez has recorded one point on one assist this season.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST ARMY... The Friars trail the all-time series with Army, 1-2-0. In their last meeting, the Friars defeated Army 3-1 in Providence, R.I. in 2012.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS... Army enters Sunday's contest with a 3-1-0 record. The Black Knights most recently defeated Central Connecticut State 2-0 on Aug. 25 and UMass 3-2 on Aug. 22. Arm's was defeated in their season opener by Wake Forest 1-0 on Aug 15. They will face Samford on Wednesday (Aug. 28) before their match against the Friars. Army was picked first in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
In 2023, Army finished 10-6-4 overall and 6-2-1 in the Patriot League play. The Black Knights' goalkeeper, Sage Strohman captured Patriot League Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Strohman has recorded 26 saves and three goals allowed with two shutouts this season. Three other players revived all-conference honors including Kaelan Bradley, Brigid Duffy, and Keira Vesy. Bradley has recorded three points on one goal and one assist this season. Vesy has recorded one point on one assist in 2024.
UP NEXT... The Friars will host Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.
