Former Friar Emily Sisson ‘14 Finishes 23rd In Olympic Marathon

Sisson was competing in her second Olympics.

PARIS, France – Former Friar Emily Sisson '14 placed 23rd of 80 runners who crossed the line today (Aug. 11) in the Olympic Marathon in Paris, France.  She posted a time of 2:29.53.
 
Sisson was making her second appearance at the Olympics, having competed in the 10,000 meters during the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she finished 10th. Sisson qualified for the 2024 Olympics with a second-place finish in the marathon at the U.S. Olympic Trials. 
 
Sisson is one of eight former Providence College women's cross country and track athletes all-time to have qualified for the Olympics. Those eight athletes have made a total of 16 appearances in the Olympic Games. 

 
Sisson set the North American record in the marathon on Oct. 9, 2022, finishing second at the Chicago Marathon in a time of 2:18.29. She also held the American record in the half marathon from May 2022 until July 2023, with a time of 1:06.52. Additionally, she represented the United States in the 10,000 meters at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.
