Women's Tennis Splits Final Regular Season Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team split its final two regular season matches - earning a 4-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday (April 13) before falling to the University of New Haven on Sunday (April 14) by a score of 6-1. The Friars finish the spring dual match season at 5-13 overall (0-3 BIG EAST).

The Friars and Crusaders competed in just singles play on Saturday as Vannelie Melendez, Elisa Davalos, Erika Beltran and Liria Loria clinched the 4-0 Friars win with strong victories. On Sunday, New Haven earned the doubles point to open the match with a 1-0 lead. Melendez scored the lone Providence singles win with a hard-fought three-set win, earning a 10-2 victory in the third set.

The Friars will compete in the BIG EAST Tournament beginning on Thursday (April 18) in Cayce, S.C.
