Friars will play the Musketeers on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

*Josh Oduro (55 pts, 27.5 ppg) and Devin Carter (45 pts, 22.5 ppg) scored 100 of the 156 points the Friars recorded in two wins last week; -- PC 75, SJU 72; PC 81, DePaul 70.

*Devin Carter leads the league in scoring in overall action (19.2 ppg) and in BIG EAST action (21.7 ppg).

Friars To Play At Xavier On February 21: The Friars will play at Xavier on Wednesday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.  Providence holds an 11-14 mark all-time versus Xavier. The Friars have posted an 8-4 mark all-time versus Xavier in Providence, a 2-10 record versus the Musketeers at Xavier and a 1-0 mark on neutral courts. The Friars are 10-11 versus the Musketeers since they joined the BIG EAST. In the first meeting this season, the Friars were defeated in Providence, 85-65, on January 13.  In the last meeting at Xavier, the Friars were defeated, 85-83, in overtime on February 1, 2023.

Friars Defeat DePaul: The Friars defeated the DePaul Blue Demons (3-22, 0-14 BIG EAST), 81-70, on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 17-9 overall and 8-7 in BIG EAST play. Junior Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) and graduate Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) combined for 58 of the Friars' 81 points. Carter registered his ninth season double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds shooting 10-14 from the field, a career-best 7-10 from three, and 4-6 from the free-throw line.

Devin Carter Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week: It was announced on February 19 that junior guard Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  It marks the second time this season that Carter has earned the honor.  He also has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll four times.  Carter, who leads the league in scoring in overall action (19.2 ppg) and in conference play (21.7 ppg), led the Friars to a 2-0 mark last week after averaging 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals.  He shot 62 percent from the field (13-21) and 67 percent (8-12) from three-point territory.  He also posted a double-double in both wins and has nine on the season.  In the Friars' win over DePaul on February 17, Carter tied his career high in points (31) and rebounds (13).  It marked his second 30-point effort of the season.  Carter has scored 20 or more points 10 times this season. He established a career best for threes when he went 7-10 from behind the arc versus DePaul.  He also was an impressive 10-14 from the field.  On February 13, Carter registered 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Friars' win over St. John's.

Oduro Named To BIG EAST Honor Roll: Graduate center Josh Oduro  (Gainesville, Va.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on February 19.  Oduro helped lead the Friars to two wins last week as he averaged 27.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.  He shot 67.9 percent from the field (19-28) and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line (14-18).    

Oduro, who ranks seventh in the league in scoring (16.8), scored 28 points in the Friars' 75-72 win over St. John's on February 13.  In the Friars' second game of the week, he scored 27 points in the team's 81-70 victory over DePaul on February 17.  Oduro also ranks fifth in the league in blocked shots (1.4), fifth in field goal percentage (.565), eighth in free-throw percentage (81.0 %), eighth in defensive rebounds (7.24), ninth in rebounding (7.1) and 11th in offensive rebounds (2.0).

Carter Leads The BIG EAST In Scoring: Friar junior guard Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) leads the conference in scoring in overall action (19.2 ppg) and in league play (21.7 ppg).

Devin Carter Named To Naismith Player Of The Year Midseason Team:  It was announced on February 15 that junior guard Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) was one of 30 players named to the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team.  Carter ranks first in the BIG EAST in scoring The Naismith Player of the Year Award is presented annually to the most outstanding men's player who achieves tremendous on-court success.  Carter also was one of 15 players named to the the Naismith Defensive Player Of The Year Watchlist on February 7.  He joins Zach Edey (Purdue), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State) and Kevin McCullar (Kansas) as the only players on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist and the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team.   

Carter Named To The Naismith Defensive Player Of The Year Watchlist:  It was announced on February 7 that junior guard Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) was one of 15 players named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist.  The Naismith Defensive Player Of The Year is presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's defensive basketball player who achieves tremendous on-court success.

Oduro Scores 32 Versus Creighton: Graduate student Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) had a game-high 32 points and 12 rebounds in an overtime win over No. 19 Creighton on February 7.  He was 12-24 from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line.  It was the fourth 30-point effort of his career.    

Bryce Hopkins Suffers Season Ending Injury: It was confirmed on January 4 that Providence junior forward/guard Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) suffered a season ending injury on his left knee (torn ACL).  "We all feel for Bryce and his family in this difficult time," Providence Head Coach Kim English said.  "We will be with him throughout this process to help him comeback stronger than ever.  We ask that all of Friartown keeps Bryce and his family in your thoughts and prayers."  In 14 games this season, Hopkins averaged 15.5 ppg and 8.6 rpg.

Carter Second In The BIG EAST In Defensive Rebounds: Junior Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) is second in the BIG EAST in defensive rebounds at 7.2 per game (206 def. reb.).  He had 31 points and 13 rebounds in the Friars' win over DePaul on February 17.  On February 7, Carter recorded 28 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime win versus No. 19  Creighton.  In the Friars' loss at St. John's on January 10, he had 31 points and 13 boards.  In the Friars' loss at Creighton on January 6, Carter registered 25 points and 10 rebounds.  On December 19, Carter scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists in the Friars' win over No. 6/6 Marquette.  On December 23, he recorded 24 points, nine rebounds and two assists in the Friars' overtime win over Butler.

   

Oduro Having A Strong Season:  Graduate student Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) ranks second on the team in scoring 16.8 ppg.  He is third on squad in rebounding (7.1 rpg).  Oduro registered 29 points and seven rebounds on 13-18 shooting from the field in the Friars' 78-64 win over Lehigh on November 24.  He recorded 22 points on 8-10 shooting in the Friars' win over Georgetown on January 27.  In the Friars' loss at No. 1/1 UConn on January 31, he recorded 20 points and nine rebounds.  He posted his third double-double of the season when he recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds at Villanova on February 4.  He has eight 20-point efforts for the season.  Oduro recorded a season-high 32-point, 12-rebound effort in an overtime win over No. 19 Creighton on February 7.  On February 13, he recorded 28 points, four rebounds and four assists versus St. John's.   Oduro had 27 points and six rebounds in a win against DePaul on February 17.

Gaines Has Five Threes At Seton Hall:  Graduate student Ticket Gaines (Buffalo, N.Y.) registered a team-high 17 points as he was 5-7 from three-point territory in the Friars' win at Seton Hall on January 24.  Gaines scored 17 points, including a game-tying three with 2.1 seconds left, in the  Friars' overtime win over Butler on December 23.  For the contest, Gaines was 5-12 from three-point territory.  Gaines scored 18 points and was 5-10 from three-point territory in the Friars' win over No. 6/6 Marquette on December 19.  He had a career-best seven threes in a win over Wagner on November 28.   Gaines is 44-135 (.326) from three-point territory the season. For his career, he is 123-361 (.341) from behind the arc.  Gaines is averaging 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this season.

Devin Carter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week On December 27: It was announced on December 27 that junior guard Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. It marked the first time he earned the honor in his career.  Carter led the Friars to two wins as they defeated then No. 6/6 Marquette, 72-57, on December 19 and Butler, 85-75, in overtime on December 23.  In the two wins, Carter averaged 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 56 percent (14-25) from the field, including 50 percent (9-18) from three-point territory.  On December 19, he registered a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 72-57 win over then No. 6/6 Marquette.  He was 5-9 from three.  On December 23, Carter had a game-high 24 points along with nine rebounds and two assists in the team's 85-75 overtime win versus Butler.  Carter scored 10 of the Friars' 16 points in the five-minute overtime to lead the team to the win.  For the game he was 4-9 from three and 8-15 from the field.

  

Rich Barron Named BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week:  It was announced on January  22 that freshman guard Rich Barron (Chicago, Ill.) was named BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week.  Barron became the first Friar to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades since A.J. Reeves earned the honor in 2018-19.  Barron returned to his hometown and had his BIG EAST career high of 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from three-point territory in the Friars' 100-62 win at DePaul on January 17.

Pierre Has Strong Effort Vs. Seton Hall:  Sophomore Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) recorded 11 points and three assists in the Friars' win at Seton Hall on January 24.  He scored 14 points and registered five assists in the Friars' win over DePaul on January 17.  He recorded 10 points , three rebounds and four assists versus Xavier on January 13.  He scored 17 points and added five assists in a loss at St. John's on January 10.  He had eight points and recorded six assists in a win over Butler in overtime on December 23. He returned to his point guard duties in the Friars' win versus Rhode Island on December 2.  The sophomore recorded 12 points, three assists and three rebounds in the win.  Pierre had missed the previous three games with a leg injury.  In 23 games this season, he is averaging 8.7 points and 3.3 assists.

Friars Add Bonke To Roster:  Friar Head Coach Kim English announced on January 15 that student-athlete Anton Bonke (Port Vila, Vanuatu) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence College.  Bonke transferred to Providence from Eastern Arizona College.  Bonke enrolled for the 2024 spring semester at Providence College and is practicing with the team.  He will not be eligible to compete in games until the 2024-25 academic year due to NCAA midyear enrollment transfer rules in basketball.  Bonke, a 7-foot-2-inch center, has three seasons of eligibility remaining.  Bonke played in 17 games this season at Eastern Arizona College.  He helped the team post a 13-4 mark.  He started 16 of the 17 games he played and averaged 18.3 minutes per game.  Bonke averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for Eastern Arizona.  He shot 58.5 percent (72-123) from the field.  Bonke had a season-high 23 points on 11-18 shooting versus the College of Southern Nevada on November 9.  He scored 10 points or more in nine of the team's 17 games.  Bonke recorded a season-high 11 rebounds twice this season versus the College of Southern Nevada on November 9 and at Utah State Eastern on November 20.

Ryan Mela Signs A NLI To Attend PC: Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Kim English announced on Nov. 8 that student-athlete Ryan Mela of Natick, Mass., signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September of 2024. Mela, a 6-foot-6-inch, 205-pound forward attends The Newman School in Boston, Mass. In 2022-23, he averaged 19.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.3 steals for The Newman School.  He followed that up with a productive summer with the Middlesex Magic on the Under Armour Circuit.  Mela averaged 15.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals.  His 15.1 points per game were tops on his Middlesex Magic squad as he helped the team capture the UAA Circuit Championship.  Prior to transferring to The Newman School, Mela attended Natick High School.  In his final season at Natick, he averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Hopkins and Carter Earn Preseason All-BIG EAST Honors: It was announced on Oct. 24 that juniors Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) and Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) each earned All-BIG EAST Preseason honors.  Hopkins was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team and Carter earned Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention accolades.  The two juniors helped the Friars post a 21-12 mark and advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.

Bryce Hopkins Earns Preseason All-America Honor:  It was announced on October 18 that junior Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, III.) was named to the CBS Sports Preseason All-America Third Team.  It marks the second Preseason All-America honor for Hopkins as he was named Preseason Second Team All-America by College Hoops Today on October 17.

Friars In Overtime: The Friars have recorded a 2-1 record in overtime games this season.  They have recorded a 79-71 mark all-time in overtime games, including 9-2 in their last 11 games.  The Friars are 2-0 at in overtime at the AMP this season and 8-0 in their last eight overtime games at the AMP.

Friars All-Time Versus Top-25 Teams:  The Friars have posted a 132-281 (.320) mark all-time versus top-25 teams, including a 2-2 mark this season.

Friars At The Amica Mutual Pavilion: All-time, the Friars have recorded a 632-240 (.724) mark in 51 seasons of games at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.  The AMP, formerly the Providence Civic Center and the Dunkin' Donuts Center, opened on November 3, 1972. The Friars had played their home games there for 48 consecutive seasons, prior to the 2020-21 season when the team played on campus at Alumni Hall with no fans in attendance due to the pandemic.  PC posted a 15-2 mark at the AMP in 2022-23 and a 16-1 record in 2021-22 -- the team's best record at home since 1973-74.

Friars Are 104-5 In Non-Conference Home Over The Last 14 Years: The Friars have posted an 104-5 mark (.954) in their last 14 seasons in non-conference home games.  The team's five losses over the last 14 years were to Brown (77-67) on December 8, 2014, Minnesota (86-74) on November 13, 2017, UMass (79-78) on December 7, 2018, Arkansas (84-72) on March 19, 2019 and Penn (81-75) on November 23, 2019.  The Friars are 26-0 in their last 26 non-conference home games (2023-24, 8-0; 2022-23, 7-0; 2021-22, 8-0; 2020-21, 2-0; 2019-20, 2-0).

Providence College Basketball: The 2023-24 campaign marks the 97th season of basketball at Providence College. Since the program started in 1926-27, Providence has posted a 1,560-1,036 mark, good for a .600 winning percentage.  The Friars have made the NCAA Tournament 22 times and the National Invitation Tournament on 20 occasions.
