Women’s Hockey Falls To No. 10/10 Boston College, 4-2

Mégane Quirion and Reichen Kirchmair found the back of the net for the Friars.

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS.– The Providence College women's hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to Boston College on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Friars concluded the first half of their season with a 7-8-3 overall record and a 3-6-2 mark in Hockey East play. The Eagles improved to 12-5-0 overall and 9-3-0 in Hockey East, tying for second place in the conference. Goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 20 saves for Providence.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
-Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) opened the scoring just 1:51 into the game with a wrap-around goal. Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.) earned the lone assist, marking her fourth of the season and Quirion's first goal of the year.
 
-The Friars extended their lead to 2-0 at 12:54 of the second period on Reichen Kirchmair's (Oakville, Ontario) team-leading ninth goal of the season. Kirchmair fired a top-shelf shot past Grace Campbell, with Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) creating the turnover along the boards to notch her seventh assist of the year.
 
-Boston College cut the deficit to 2-1 with 3:30 remaining in the second period, as Abby Newhook found the back of the net on a wrister assisted by Jamie Griswold.
 
-Providence led the shot count after two periods, 27-14.
 
-Early in the third period, both teams skated four-on-four after matching penalties, including a minor on the Eagles and a major on Quirion. Boston College capitalized during the stretch, taking a 3-2 lead on Olivia Maffeo's goal, assisted by Abby Newhook.
 
-Maffeo's tally would stand as the game-winner.
 
-With the Friars' net empty in the final minute, Sammy Taber sealed the 4-2 victory for the Eagles with an unassisted goal at 19:25.
 
-Walinski made 20 saves for the Friars.
 
-The Friars are now 2-3-0 against ranked opponents this season.
