PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's hockey team is set to face Boston University in a home-and-home series this weekend. The first game will take place on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass., followed by a rematch on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I.

Scouting the Friars
Providence enters the series with a 5-3-0 overall record, including 2-2-0 in Hockey East play. The Friars are receiving nine votes in the USCHO poll and 11 votes in the USA Hockey Poll.

Last Friday (Oct. 25), the Friars secured a 2-1 victory over No. 14/14 Northeastern University at Schneider Arena. Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) opened the scoring 2:58 into the first period, with assists from Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) and Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario). Johnson now shares the team lead in goals, while Kirchmair extended her point streak to four games.

Northeastern tied the game late in the second period on a power-play goal. However, with 4:58 remaining in regulation, Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) netted the game-winner with assists from Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) and Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.). It was Davies' third goal of the season and her second game-winning tally, as she continued her three-game point streak.

The Friars' win over Northeastern marked their second victory against a ranked opponent this season. They previously defeated No. 10/11 Quinnipiac (3-2) on Oct. 15.

Additionally, last Friday's contest was the sixth-consecutive one-goal game Providence has played, marking the first time in program history the Friars have played in six-consecutive one-goal games. The Friars hold a 3-3-0 record during that span this season.

Providence scored six-or-more goals in both games against Saint Michael's to start the season. The last time the Friars recorded six-or-more goals in back-to-back games was Sep. 29, 2017 (at Union, 7-3) and Oct. 1, 2017 (vs. Vermont, 6-2).

Returning for the Friars
The Friars return forward Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) who made the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team after recording 14 goals and four assists for 18 points in her freshman season. Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) also returns to the lineup. Kirchmair posted 11 goals and five assists for 16 points last season.

Providence returns top defensemen Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario). Becker totaled five goals, 11 assists and 25 blocks and was named All-Hockey East Third Team honors. Cavaliere recorded one goal, 11 assists and 30 blocked shots.

In net, Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) returns for Providence. Walinski started 26 games last season, posting a 2.04 goals against average, a .917 save percentage, four shutouts and 11-11-4 record. Sophomore Taya Currie (Parkhill, Ontario) returns after missing the entire 2023-24 season due to injury. Providence received 55 points and was picked to finish behind UConn (88), Northeastern (81), Boston College (73) and New Hampshire (62). The Huskies, who won the 2024 Hockey East Tournament, received eight first place votes.
