- Providence enters their season-opener at No. 6 North Dakota following a 4-1 exhibition win over Union in Schenectady, N.Y. last Saturday (Oct. 5).
- The Friars got onto the board first, with a re-directed goal from
Nick Poisson and a tally from
Trevor Connelly midway through the first period putting Providence ahead 2-0.
- The Garnet Chargers broke onto the scoreboard early in the middle frame, as a goal from Nate Hanley cut the Friars lead in half at 2-1.
- Providence regained their two-goal lead a couple minutes later, with a one-timer from
Chase Yoder padding the advantage.
- Freshman
John Mustard extended the lead in the third period for the Friars, with a shot from the point connecting with the net, bringing about the 4-1 final score.
- Philip Svedebäck finished the game having stopped 10-of-11 shots through 29:29 of ice time.
Zachary Borgiel came in relief, stopping all seven shots faced through 29:31 of play.

Trevor Connelly became the fifth first-round pick of the program, joining Joe Hulbig (13th, 1992), Tom Fitzgerald (17th, 1986), Mark Jankowski (21st, 2012) and Jay O'Brien (19th, 2018) as he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights 19th overall. On day two of the draft,
John Mustard was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (67th overall) and
Logan Sawyer was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round (78th overall). Freshman
Tomas Machu was a 2021 seventh round (221st overall) selection of the New York Islanders.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. Leaman sits at 397 career victories as a Division I head coach. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
