Providence College Outlasts Xavier On The Road, 69-60

Four Friars scored in double figures led by Olivia Olsen’s 18 points.
CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Xavier, 69-60, on Jan. 27 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Friars improved to 11-11 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST Conference at the midway point of the league slate. Xavier dropped to 1-17 overall (0-9 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Grace Efosa scored the first five points of the game for Providence, but Xavier answered with a 8-0 run over the next 2:46.
• Nariah Scott and Efosa halted the Friars' scoring drought with back-to-back threes during a span of 57-seconds to regain the lead heading into the media timeout (4:12).
• Providence extended its run to 8-0 to take a 13-8 lead (3:52).
• Efosa was into double figures just 8:55 into the game (10) on 4-4 shooting, including a 2-2 effort from three-point territory.
• Providence held a 20-13 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• Xavier tied the game 26-26 at the midway point of the second quarter.
• Brynn Farrell converted a traditional three-point play at the 4:50 mark for her first points of the game to help Providence regain the lead (29-26).
• The Musketeers closed the quarter with an 11-5 scoring edge to take a 37-35 lead into halftime. Xavier outscored Providence 24-15 in the quarter overall.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence used a 11-0 run during span of 4:38 to take a 48-41 lead and force a Xavier timeout with 3:10 remaining.
• Xavier inched within two (49-47) with under a minute to play in the frame.
• Providence maintained a 50-47 lead despite being unable to convert a field goal in the final 4:25 of the quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• A 9-2 edge, capped by a Kendall Eddy three-pointer forced a Xavier timeout at 4:36. The run helped the Friars mount a 59-51 lead.
• Providence mounted its largest lead of the game on a three-point play by Farrell with 2:46 to play (62-53).
• Xavier responded with a 5-0 run to close within 62-58.
• Efosa scored her first points since the 3:05 mark of the first quarter on a pair of free throws with 25-seconds left to extend Providence's lead to 67-60.
• Eddy converted two more free throws with seven seconds left to seal the game, 69-60.
NOTES:
• Four Friars reached double figures in the scoring column for the fifth time this season.
• Providence improved to 11-11 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST Conference.
• The Friars have won three-straight league games for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
• Olivia Olsen paced the Friars with 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
• Farrell finished the day with 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. She also dished three assists.
• Eddy registered a career-high 15 points on 4-5 shooting and added three assists.
• Efosa rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points and was one of three Friars to dish three assists.
• The Friars shot 53-percent from the field (21-40), including 4-8 from beyond the arc (.500). Providence also hit 23-29 free throws (.793).
• Providence held Xavier to 36-percent shooting and improved to 9-2 on the season when holding its opponent below 40-percent from the field.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 3 against #RV/RV Marquette. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
