WORCESTER, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 3-1, on Friday, Jan. 19 at the Hart Center Rink in Worcester, Mass. Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the night with 20 saves.
GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) netted the first goal of the night at the 13-minute mark of the first period, unassisted. -Holy Cross' Casey Borgiel converted on a power play (1-1) at 5:49 in the second period. Emilie Fortunato assisted the play. -Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) scored off a pass from Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas) 9:28 into the second period to give the Friars a 2-1 lead. Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) earned the secondary assist. -With three minutes left in the second period, Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) converted on a power play to extend the Friars' lead to 3-1. Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) and Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) were each credited with an assist. -Providence carried a 3-1 lead into the third period. -Both teams skated through the third period scoreless. -Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the night with 20 saves. -The Friars have recorded three-straight wins, marking their longest winning streak of the season. -Providence has posted a 4-1-1 record in its last six Hockey East games to improve to 8-8-1 in league action.
