CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The Providence College No. 14 women's and men's cross country teams competed at the University of Virginia Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Charlottesville, Va. The No. 14 Friar women finished eighth (246 points) out of 23 teams. The men finished 21
st (489 points) out of 23 teams. The women's 5k race featured nine teams ranked in the top-15 in the latest national poll and the men's 8k race had eight teams ranked in the top-15 nationally.
The women's side was led by
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand). May finished strong in the 10
th spot with a time of 16:34.8. Fellow Friars
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) held competitive positions for the duration of the race. Flockhart had a 36
th-place finish (17:00.2), while Tuck crossed the line in the 38
th position (17:00.8).
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and
Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.) rounded out the top five, finishing 68
th(17:21.8) and 102
nd (17:39.0), respectively, A total of 199 runners finished the race.
For the men, the Friars were led by a 58
th-place finish (24:03.3) by
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand).
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) and
Michael Morgan finished 60
th (24:04.3) and 66
th (24:09.8), respectively. Rounding out the Friars' top five were
Luke Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) in 169
th (25:06.1) and
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) in 203
rd (25:41.4). There was a total of 217 runners to finish the race.
