Women’s Soccer Tops The University Of Rhode Island 1-0

The Friars have started the season with three-straight shut-out victories.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team beat the University of Rhode Island 1-0 on Sunday, August 27 in Kingston, R.I. Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass) moved up into the top 10 all-time in career scoring at Providence College (47 points), tallying the Friars' lone goal.

"It was a difficult road game," Head Coach Sam Lopes said. "URI started off very well with tons of energy. We grew into the game and scored a great goal. Our second half was very good as we created many chances and defended well in transition. I'm proud of the resilience and character of the group in earning a tough road win."

GAME FLOW AND NOTES
- The Game was scoreless for the first 24 minutes.
- Hughes scored the first goal of the game for the Friars to give them a 1-0 lead. Corinne Dente (Stamford, Conn.) earned the assist on goal, collecting her first point as a Friar. 
-  Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) registered six saves in the first half. 
- Katherine McElroy recorded two saves in the second half for the Friars.
- Providence outshout Rhode Island 11-4 in the second half.
- Hughes moved into a tie for ninth place on the Friars' all-time scoring list (47 points) with Caitlyn Welsh, who played for the Friars from 1998-01 and scored 18 goals and 11 assists.
